Silver Pre-Nup, Novelty or Necessity?

The perception of Pre-Nups has often been that they are for the rich and wealthy and exist to protect current wealth and future wealth where one party is considerably more wealthy than the other.

However, with the divorce rate among people in their 50s and 60s increasing and the subsequent increase of second marriages a pre-nup (often referred to as a silver pre-nup) may provide protection for past wealth and Inheritance Tax purposes.

While neither party will want to go into their second marriage anticipating problems they will be more aware of the financial implications of separation and divorce.
It is not only Individual property and financial settlements which need to be protected but also inheritance for their children.

A Silver Pre-Nup can help to ensure that upon death the deceased’s wishes are upheld and their estate passes to their own children and not their spouse’s children.
